Francis Wakefield WAKEFIELD, FRANCIS WILHELM
(b. 1821 Selkirk, Scotland, UK; occult/treasure hunter, adventurer, privateer). Born into affluence, he was educated at Cambridge until abruptly dropping out to join the Royal Navy (1839). Fought in the Opium Wars where he was wounded in battle and honorably discharged (1842). After returning home for a stint, he traveled extensively throughout Asia and Africa before joining the East India Company as a financed privateer (1852), where he eventually participated in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. After the death of his family that same year, he began traveling as a fortune hunter/occultist, determined to find the source of archaic knowledge by immersing himself in lands, peoples, and histories.
